Artist's Description

Windflowers are beloved in their native Mediterranean home because of their bright color and whimsical appearance. Their botanical name Anemone was derived from the Greek mythological word for wind gods, Anemoi. In ancient Greece, the altars of the goddess Venus were decorated with wreaths woven from these windflowers. Europeans during the Middle Ages believed these flowers had healing powers, so they laced necklaces woven from the flowers around the necks of the ill.
The common name for this flower, wind flower, is derived from the Greek word “ánemos,” which means wind. This wind flower, or anemone, has a history in Greek and Roman mythology. Aphrodite was in love with Adonis, and she kept him by her side past the curfew allowed by the Gods, thus triggering the vengeance of Persephone. Weeping for Adonis’ death, Aphrodite swore Adonis would live forever and this beautiful flower was born out of her tears. The flower in this image seems to stare forever, watching over everyone...

About Usha Peddamatham

Usha Peddamatham

A passionate nature and travel photographer loving it more and more as I travel the world. The more I travel the more I am in love with our planet and hoping and praying that we don't take it for granted and preserve the beauty for future generations. For the record I have visited all seven continents. Now we are doing country by country. Not sure if I will be able to see all that I want to see and experience in my life time. "When words become unclear, I shall focus with photographs. When images become inadequate, I shall be content with silence " Ansel Adams. " A great photograph is a full expression of what one feels about what is being photographed in the deepest sense, and is, there by, a true expression about what feels...
